About Poretege

THE PORETEGE RESEARCH GROUP

PORETEGE, a.k.a. the Surface Coatings Technology for Metals and Materials Research Unit (SurfMet) at Metallurgy and Materials Science Research Institute is the research group founded in 2008 by Dr. Yuttanant Boonyongmaneerat (‘Dr.Vee’).  Research on metals coatings technology, including electroplating and hot-dip galvanizing, as well as on advanced porous materials, namely metal foams, have been initiated then.  The core research themes are anchored and amplified over time, resulting in (i) a stream of fundamental and industrially-applicable knowledge and innovations, (ii) a concert of alumni who now dedicatedly contribute to industry and research communities, (iii) Innovation and intermediary policies for development of SMEs/IDEs, and (iv) the committed quadruple-helix surface coating industrial network.

What does the word PORETEGE mean?
The word “Poretege” comes from Protégé which refers to a person who get trained and supported by significant persons. As a research scientist / engineer. We often learn and develop our works and skills based on prior teaching crystallized by many great scientists and experts, including our teachers and colleagues, who tirelessly embark upon their quests for knowledge. We are grateful to those influential persons.
“Poretege” comes from Protégé which, from its root, means “to protect”. In our research, we aim to develop processes that lead to metallic coatings with superior protective properties.
Protégé also represents our study on processing technology and fundamental understanding of porous materials, including metallic foams and sintered materials.
The word “Poretege” in Protégé also means to read/study attentively and to reflect/meditate steadily, and these are exactly our tools to achieve our research goals!
